KNITTING FACTORY & DUCK CLUB PRESENTS
Magic Sword, Manatee Commune
Magic Sword is a multimedia experience created by an anonymous music producer and comic illustrator Shay Plummer. The project uses the combined power of music and comics to tell the fantastic story of the Magic Sword - a weapon of infinite power left to be guarded by an enigmatic character named The Keeper.
The Keeper himself occasionally breaches the pages of these comics and pushes aside the veil of our waking world to bring the disciples of The Sword together for a cinematic and energetic live experience.
Rumors of the identity behind Magic Sword's music began swirling in 2012 when one of the masked producer's tracks surfaced on a radio station in Boise, ID. Magic Sword's debut album, which featured a comic created by Plummer quietly found its way onto store shelves. As word about the project spread through the region, copies of the debut record quickly sold out.
Magic Sword made its live debut to a packed venue at the 2013 Treefort Music Fest. Over the next year-and-a-half, Magic Sword brought capacity crowds to downtown Boise's biggest clubs and shared bills with the likes of Odesza and Slow Magic. Following a series of street-level guerrilla concerts in Portland as well as four tracks getting placed in GoPro's "Streets of Japan" documentary, Magic Sword entered 2015 to a flurry of international interest surrounding the act's involvement with the hotly anticipated video game Hotline Miami 2 and the re-release of Volume One via Tender Loving Empire.
In 2016, Magic Sword partnered with Size Records for the project's follow up to Volune One - a series of episodic EPs. Each EP will feature a comic that tells another chapter of The Keeper’s eternal battle. The first of these EPs, called 'Legend', was released on April 29th.
A violinist by trade and a producer by nature, Manatee Commune makes his mark with ridiculously catchy melodies, sparkly synthesis, and energetic percussion. In the last year this overachiever released two critically acclaimed albums, an EP in the winter and an LP in the fall with a plentiful amount of featured vocalists. Though falling in the realm of electronic music, MC’s shows have proven to be flamboyant and lively as he jumps from violin to guitar to drums to keyboard with vibrant projected visuals.
